One of the biggest challenges on LinkedIn is figuring out a way for prospects to quickly figure out what it is you do and how you can help them.

With that in mind, here’s a quick hack to help others instantly know more about the services you provide anytime they see you anywhere on the platform.

Custom Pronouns = Engaged Prospects

You’ll notice as you go through the LinkedIn newsfeed gender pronouns next to a person’s name on the platform.

Here’s the hack: Did you know you can customize those pronouns to say anything you want?

Instead of just using the typical “He/Him” or “She/Her” in this valuable piece of LinkedIn real estate, utilize the “custom” pronouns feature to insert some text about the service you provide.

How it Works

You can edit this feature on your profile page in the “Intro” section.

(Note: This custom pronoun box has a 25 character limit, so be brief!)

Depending on what you do, you could use it like this:

  • Your Name (Business Coach)
  • Your Name (Franchise Consultant)
  • Your Name (Capital Raising)
  • Your Name (Real Estate Investing)
  • Your Name (Virtual CFO)

See how that helps a prospect immediately know more about what you do / the services you provide?

Another key area to focus on is your LinkedIn headline.

The Ideal LinkedIn Profile Headline Formula

Instead of using your LinkedIn headline area to list your job title, company name, or trying to by clever by calling yourself a “Ninja” or similar, keep it quick and clear.

Here’s a simple formula you can use to craft a client-attracting LinkedIn profile headline:

Service I Provide + Target Audience(s) I Serve

I start with my service (“Done For You” LinkedIn Lead Generation) and then my target audiences (Small Business Owners and Consultants).

Now, I also add some social proof (“Featured on”) toward the end of it, but the core focus is the Service I Provide + Target Audience(s).

Don’t overthink this – keep your LinkedIn profile headline simple and clear, remembering that we live in a hyper-fast, Google-ized world where people expect instant, easy and simple-to-digest information online.

Bonus Tip – LinkedIn Keywords

When you’re looking for the “Service I Provide” part of your LinkedIn headline formula, use the keywords that LinkedIn “likes” for its platform.

Here’s how to figure that out: If you navigate to the “Skills” section of your own LinkedIn profile, you’ll see the ability to “add a skill” and then a drop down menu that appears once you start typing a “skill” (i.e. a keyword).

You can see how using “skills” like “Executive Coaching” or “Business Coaching” are not only great / simple ways to explain what you do in a LinkedIn headline or custom pronoun area – they’re also “keyword friendly” and “liked” by LinkedIn’s internal search engine, since it wants you to list those phrases on your profile as “skills” you have.

Remember, LinkedIn is a giant search engine – every piece of content you publish is saved, sorted and indexed so other people can search for it.

So by using LinkedIn’s suggested keywords / skills, you’re making it easier for your ideal prospects to “find” you on the platform.

Make sure you take advantage of these simple tweaks with “custom pronouns” and your LinkedIn headline to instantly make it more clear to prospects what it is you do, the service you provide and how you can help them as a result!
