I nearly spit out my drink when I read it.
The comment on my LinkedIn post was so robotic, so perfectly generic, it could have been written by my microwave.
“Fascinating insights, John. LinkedIn’s true potential lies in personal connections and authentic conversations.”
Right. Sure.
And my three boys clean their rooms without being asked. 😂
Look, I’ve been leveraging LinkedIn for lead generation since 2012. I’ve seen every trend, every “hack,” every shortcut people try to game the system.
But this latest one? AI-generated comments flooding LinkedIn feeds?
It’s not just ineffective – it’s actively destroying your credibility.

The Robot Apocalypse Has Arrived (And It’s Commenting on Your Posts)
Here’s what’s happening: People are using AI tools to automatically comment on LinkedIn posts, thinking they’re “building relationships” and “boosting their algorithm performance.”
The AI scans posts and generates these vanilla, corporate-speak comments that sound like they were written by a committee of robots who’ve never had an actual human conversation.
You know the type:
- “Thank you for sharing your valuable perspective”
- “Building genuine relationships through DMs can lead to substantial business opportunities”
- “Your insights on professional networking are truly transformative”
I mean, come on!
Do real humans actually talk like this?
After more than a decade on LinkedIn, reading thousands upon thousands of comments, I can (as I’m sure you do, too) smell AI-generated content from a mile away.
And guess what?
So can your prospects.
Why Everyone’s Obsessed with the LinkedIn Algorithm (And Missing the Point)
Let me break down why this is happening.
Everyone and their cousin is obsessed with “beating” the LinkedIn algorithm. They think if they can just get enough likes, comments, and shares, they’ll magically transform into lead generation machines.
Here’s how the algorithm actually works …
Say you have 1,000 1st degree LinkedIn connections. When you post something, LinkedIn doesn’t show it to all 1,000 people.
Instead, they might show it to maybe 20 or so random 1st degree connections first.
If those people engage quickly (what the LinkedIn gurus call “velocity”), then LinkedIn thinks, “Hey, this must be good content!” and shows it to more of your connections.
So what do people do? They join “engagement pods” on Facebook. They deploy AI bots. They try every trick in the book to game the system.
And they’re completely missing the point.
(Plus, LinkedIn also adapts it’s algorithm, figuring out “hacks” like these and punishing your content accordingly.)
The $0 Vanity Metrics That Everyone’s Chasing
Also, the last time I checked, you cannot deposit likes into your bank account.
You can’t pay your mortgage with comments.
And post reshares don’t put food on the table.
Yet everyone’s running around celebrating their “6,283 views and 482 comments!” while their sales pipeline stays drier than the Sahara Desert.
I call these Vanity Metrics – they make you feel good, but don’t actually move the needle on your business.
Think about it: What would you rather have?
- 10,000 views on a post with zero qualified leads?
- Or 3 genuine conversations with ideal prospects who actually need what you sell?

Where the REAL Money is on LinkedIn
Here’s what hasn’t changed since I started doing LinkedIn lead generation more than 13 years ago: All the money on LinkedIn is STILL in 1-on-1 messaging.
Not in the newsfeed.
Not in viral posts.
Not in AI-generated comment spam.
In. The. Mailbox.
Every single high-ticket client I’ve landed.
Every 5-6 figure deal our “Done For You” LinkedIn lead generation clients have closed.
They all started with a simple, one-on-one LinkedIn message.
Forget the AI. Forget the algorithm hacks. Here’s the strategy that’s been generating real revenue (the kind you can deposit in your bank account) for me and my clients for over a decade.
Step 1: Optimize Your Profile (Make It Client-Facing)
Your LinkedIn profile shouldn’t read like a resume. It should read like a client magnet.
Focus on:
- Who you help
- What problems you solve
- What results you deliver
Not your job history from 2003.
Step 2: Build Laser-Targeted Lists
Use LinkedIn Sales Navigator to build hyper-targeted lists of your exact ideal clients. We’re talking:
- Specific job titles
- Company size
- Industry
- Years of experience
- Geographic location
You can literally filter through one billion profiles to find your perfect prospects.
Step 3: The One-Sentence Outreach That Qualifies Instantly
Here’s where everyone screws up. They write these long, complicated messages trying to “personalize” everything.
Stop it.
Instead, use this one-sentence formula:
“Hey [Name], would you be interested in my best free tips on [specific benefit they want]?”
Or:
“Hey [Name], should I send you a free copy of my ebook on [solving their exact problem]?”
That’s it. One sentence. No fluff. No fake rapport-building. No AI-generated nonsense.
Step 4: Let Your Content Do the Heavy Lifting
When they say yes (and many will!), you send them valuable content that:
- Demonstrates your expertise
- Gives away your “secret sauce”
- Shows real results
- Builds genuine trust
This content qualifies them automatically. If they read your ebook and come back wanting more, you’ve got a warm lead who already knows, likes, and trusts you.
Why AI Comments Are the Kiss of Death for Your Credibility
Let’s get back to those AI comments for a second.
When you use AI to comment on someone’s post, you’re essentially saying: “You’re not worth my actual time or attention, so I’ll have a robot pretend to care.”
How’s that for relationship building?
It’s like sending a cardboard cutout of yourself to a networking event and expecting to make real connections.
People aren’t stupid. They can feel the difference between genuine human interaction and robotic responses. And in a world where everyone’s inbox is flooded with automation, being genuinely human is your biggest competitive advantage.
The Bottom Line: Be Human in a World of Robots
Business is still about people connecting with people.
It’s still about solving real problems for real humans who have real budgets.
And last time I checked, robots don’t write checks!
So while everyone else is deploying their AI armies and chasing vanity metrics, you can be having actual conversations with actual prospects who actually want to buy what you’re selling.
The choice is yours: Be another robot in the feed, or be the human who stands out.
